Reigning Sabalenka Secures Back-to-Back WTA Player of the Year Accolades.
World number one Aryna Sabalenka has been chosen the Women's Tennis Association top performer of the year for a second straight season.
The 27-year-old secured four titles – the highest tally on the circuit – which included retaining the US Open this past September against Amanda Anisimova to secure her fourth career Grand Slam singles triumph.
A Year of Dominance
Over the course of the tour, Sabalenka competed in a tour-best nine championship matches, with losses coming to Madison Keys in the Australian Open final in January and Coco Gauff in the French Open final.
The Belarusian also claimed victory at the Brisbane International in January, the Miami Open during the spring, and the Madrid Open in May. She remained the whole season as the world number one, ending 2025 on top of the rankings for a second straight year.
This past summer, she became the first athlete to top 12,000 WTA ranking points since Serena Williams did so nearly a decade ago.
Record-Breaking Numbers
Sabalenka ended the season with a 63-12 win-loss record, and earned a historic eleven million pounds in prize money.
She garnered almost 80% of the votes submitted by international tennis media.
Later this month, she is scheduled to face 2022 Wimbledon finalist Nick Kyrgios in a Battle of the Sexes-style exhibition match with the aim of "help bring women's tennis to a higher level".
Additional WTA Award Recipients
- Returning Star of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, 28, received the award after taking 13-month break after the arrival of her first child and making her comeback to the sport earlier this season.
- Rookie of the Year: Canadian 19-year-old Victoria Mboko was honored with the award after beginning the season ranked beyond the world's top 300 and rising to the eighteenth spot.
- Doubles Team of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend were voted after winning their second career Grand Slam title as a pair.
- Biggest Leap of the Year: Amanda Anisimova received the accolade after making five finals.
Recently, Carlos Alcaraz secured three awards in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, including the season-ending top rank award, while Jannik Sinner was voted the fan favorite for a third time.
